Machines with a Job

There is no race car in this category and that is the whole point. Children who love vehicles usually love them for a reason that has nothing to do with speed: they want to know what the machine is FOR. So every page here shows a machine mid-task, with the job visible. The street sweeper has its brushes down and a line of clean pavement behind it. The gantry crane is holding a container over a ship, not parked. The milking robot has a cow in it. The water bomber is scooping, not flying. Pages cover the machines a Dutch child actually sees — gritter trucks, canal dredgers, the mobile library bus, window-washing gondolas hanging off a tower block — and a few they will only ever see on a screen, like a tunnel boring machine`s cutterhead or a rover drilling a core sample on Mars. This is the easiest category to hang a jobs lesson on, because behind every machine there is a person doing work, and most of these sheets include them. Younger children get bold, chunky pages; from about seven, expect visible hydraulics, cables and controls to color separately. Good printed large if you have access to A3.
